October 29, 2020 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
FreeNew Canaan Library’s HOT BOOK discussion returns this fall, with an exploration of bestselling nonfiction author Erik Larson’s latest release, The Splendid and the Vile on Thursday, October 29 at 7 PM EST via Zoom. Moderating the discussion will be Chris O’Connor, Library Trustee with Laura Cavers, Readers’ Advisor for the Library. The Splendid and the Vile is an intimate and impeccably researched chronicle of Winston Churchill and London during the Blitz. Drawing on diaries, secret reports and documents – some just recently released – Larson uses his compelling narrative style to reveal a more personal Churchill, including insights into his family at the Chequers estate, his close associates from the War Room at 10 Downing Street, and his relentless campaign to persuade FDR to join the Allies.
