Award winning writer, director and producer Jay Craven explores the creative process that is undertaken in turning a script into a film. To illustrate the process, Craven will use Where the Rivers Flow North, the first feature film in his trilogy of North Country frontier films, based on novels by Howard Frank Mosher. Among other awards, Rivers was voted one of the “ten best films of the year” by the Knight Ridder Press syndicate and the Producers Guild of America awarded Craven its NOVA Award for Most Promising New Motion Picture Producer of the Year.

Registrants are asked to view the film and read the screenplay prior to the event; links to both will be provided upon registration. Please register at newcanaanlibrary.org.

Jay Craven is an award-winning independent filmmaker whose feature films include Disappearances, The Year That Trembled, A Stranger in the Kingdom, and Where the Rivers Flow North (1994 w/ Rip Torn, Tantoo Cardinal, Michael J. Fox). Craven’s films have played more than 60 international festivals including Sundance, SXSW, AFI Fest, Philadelphia, St. Louis, Savannah, San Francisco, Vancouver, and Vienna. Craven teaches screenwriting and directing at Sarah Lawrence College and directs the biennial Cinema Sarah Lawrence program, where 24 professionals mentor and collaborate with students from a dozen colleges to make an ambitious narrative feature film for national release.
