Zooming through town is a big hit in New Canaan.
The New Canaan Chamber of Commerce has teamed up with the New Canaan Library to produce two Zoom meetings that have taken residents on 1-hour tours through the community’s downtown area. The sessions are an effort to keep residents and merchants connected as the community rides out the continuing COVID-19 health crisis continues.
The two Zoom meetings have been so successful, the chamber is already planning for more. The latest session included an appearance by actress and New Canaan resident Allison Williams, and New Canaan Chamber President Tucker Murphy is hoping other local celebrities will participate in future efforts.
Residents who joined the Zoom meeting May 6th were led through the downtown area and met local merchants from a variety of businesses including Near Water Pilates, Fresh Green Light, Against the Grain, Athletic Shoe Factory, Handwright Gallery and others.
“We are hearing from the local merchants that people are calling (their stores) and placing orders,” Murphy said. “It really was designed as a way to reconnect with each other and so far we’ve nailed it there I believe.”
With registration for Zoom meetings topping out at 500 people, the chamber also had the session broadcast live on Channel 79. The chamber is hoping to be able to re-broadcast each Zoom session as well.
