Here’s What’s Happening This Week During October4design

The first full week of New Canaan’s October4design celebration will be highlighted by a presentation by architect and teacher Fred Noyes, a tour for high school students through some of the community’s most prominent mid-century modern homes, and a luncheon featuring renowned potter Frances Palmer.

The October4design celebration has been organized by the New Canaan Museum & Historical Society and recognizes the community’s rich architectural history and its appreciation for art and design. An entire month of events will continue through October 29th.

Week 1 of October4design’s features these events:

Tuesday, October 5th

  • Noyes Family Legacy of Design Lecture: Architect and teacher Fred Noyes will give a 90-minute presentation about the Noyes family and the influence the family has had on architecture and industrial design. Noyes will discuss the work of his father, Eliot, the experiences he had as a child growing up in New Canaan in the presence of renowned modern architects such as Marcel Breuer and Philip Johnson, and talk about the work of his wife, Mary “Molly” Duncan Weed, who designed many of the interiors for his projects. The lecture is free and begins at 7 p.m.
