Melody Libonati says the Summer Theatre of New Canaan is the best kept secret in the community. She’s determined to change that perception.

Tomorrow (Friday, July15), the Summer Theatre kicks off its 2021 season at the Waveny Park amphitheatre with a country western benefit barbeque beginning at 6 p.m., followed by the opening presentation of The Honky Tonk Angels at 8 p.m. Tickets for both events can be purchased here.

As the Summer Theatre’s Artistic Director, Libonati is excited for the 2021 season to get underway. She describes The Honky Tonk Angels as the story of three female friends who try to make it big in Nashville. The show will feature such hit songs as Tammy Wynette’s “Stand By Your Man”, Dolly Parton’s “9 to 5”, and other country favorites such as “Coal Miner’s Daughter” and “These Boots Were Made for Walking.”

The Summer Theatre will also be presenting two shows tailored for families and young audiences. Stoopkids Stories LIVE! tells the story of five young black characters who face adventure and overcome obstacles in the community where they live, while You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown chronicles the adventures of the loveable Peanuts gang.

There’s VIP, reserved, and general admission seating to all shows. Chairs are provided in the VIP seating area, but spectators in the reserved and general admission areas need to bring their own chairs.
