Holiday Doors of New Canaan Kick Off

Still looking for a last-minute holiday gift?

Before you go online, take a virtual stroll through some of New Canaan’s iconic businesses, thanks to the Holiday Doors of New Canaan videos being posted daily on the Chamber of Commerce YouTube channel.

The daily videos are hosted by Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Laura Budd and feature a different New Canaan business each day. One video will be posted every day through Christmas Eve.

Sponsored by Walter Stewart’s Market, Stewart’s Wine & Spirits, and Bankwell, the videos are being used by the chamber to encourage local residents to support merchants in the community. In the videos, viewers are greeted at the door by the store’s owners and then are taken on a brief tour of the store.

“It’s been a difficult 10 months for many of our businesses,” Budd said. “We’re hoping this campaign gets a few more people talking about supporting our local business owners.”

Since the onset of the COVID-19 health crisis, the chamber has used digital media to help residents stay connected to local businesses. There have been Zoom tours of downtown, and aerial videos that featured specific areas of the community. Budd says the Holiday Doors campaign is a hybrid of the previous two.

“I started talking to merchants about ways to get more customers in stores,” Budd said. “We decided this might be the best way to do it.”
