Attention New Canaan residents: outdoor summer concerts are back starting June 23rd! After not having the annual concert series last summer because of the COVID-19 pandemic, we’re excited to announce the concerts will be back this summer!
The outdoor concert series has been an annual tradition in the New Canaan community for more than 40 years. Sponsored by the New Canaan Recreation Department and local New Canaan merchants, the summer concerts are perfect for local friends and families to enjoy while spending time together!
The concerts will take place on the lawn and patio of the Waveny House from 7:30 p.m. to about 9:30 p.m. every Wednesday this summer. If it rains, the concert will be held the following day.
The town of New Canaan has scheduled 11 concerts throughout the summer, the first being June 23rd. Each of the concerts will feature a mixture of local musical groups such as Airborne and Otis and The Hurricanes, along with a variety of other performers to ensure everyone’s musical tastes are satisfied.
Friends and families are encouraged to bring picnic dinners while enjoying the live music, or invite guests to join in the fun! Local businesses sponsor/contribute to the program by covering any costs, allowing the events to be free to the public.
Assistant Recreation Director Bill Knapp said that the sole purpose of the concerts is to allow local residents and families to have something special to look forward to and be able to spend time together. The concerts provide a family-friendly environment where you can relax and support local musicians and businesses.
Residents were extremely disappointed when the series was canceled last summer, but now that restrictions are being lifted, the concerts are back.
The first show will feature a contemporary jazz group Airborne. Get more information on concert dates and the bands that will be performing here.
