Some things just aren’t meant to happen.
This year’s Family Fourth Fireworks Celebration in New Canaan was officially canceled on Wednesday, the town announced, citing another unsettled weather forecast for the weekend and the ongoing threat of COVID-19 infections.
In a brief email, the Family Fourth Committee stated that it regrets the inconvenience the decision will cause New Canaan residents and said all passes that were purchased for the August 14th show will be honored at next year’s event.
The 2021 event had already been canceled twice. Inclement weather and soggy conditions forced the town to postpone the originally scheduled show on the Fourth of July weekend. The first makeup date of July 11 was washed out as well.
It’s the second consecutive year that New Canaan residents have been unable to gather at Waveny Park for the traditional celebration. The 2020 event was conducted virtually because of the pandemic.
