The Sunshine Kids: Helping Children with Cancer Smile
The Sunshine Kids is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing support for children with cancer. Established in 1982 by Rhoda Tomasco, who was inspired during her time volunteering at a pediatric cancer unit in Houston, Texas, the foundation aims to alleviate the loneliness and depression experienced by children undergoing long-term hospital treatments.
The Sunshine Kids offers a variety of free programs and events across North America, designed to boost self-esteem, provide personal accomplishment, and reintroduce fun into the lives of young cancer patients. Funded by personal donations, corporate sponsors, and foundations, the organization ensures that all activities are free for the children and their families.
The mission of the Sunshine Kids is to enable children with cancer to enjoy life and engage in fun group activities. The ultimate goal of the foundation is to one day be unnecessary, but until then, it is committed to enriching the lives of as many children as possible through its impactful initiatives.
