Rock Paper Scissors Custom Events presents the 2024 Final for Gates Battle of the Bands. Gates Restaurant is celebrating five years of championing local music and raising funds for Meals on Wheels in New Canaan. In 2023, Gates gave $4,300 to the Meals on Wheels program. The event is sponsored by Karl Chevrolet and CycleBar, Stamford.
This highly charged production consists of four weekly heats of music and an electrifying final. The competition attracts talented bands and music lovers from all over Fairfield County. The four weekly heats will be held on the following dates and times:
- Saturday, Jan. 6: Pretty Nasty (8 p.m.) vs Captain Obvious (9:30 p.m.)
- Saturday, Jan. 13: Retro Express (8 p.m.) vs Mind the Gap (9:30 p.m.)
- Saturday, Jan 20: The Leftovers (8 p.m.) vs Herman & Co (9:30 p.m.)
- Saturday, Jan 27: Dead Weight (8 p.m.) vs Rock Paper Soul (9:30 p.m.)

Join Us for the Finals
Special guest judges are recruited to decide the fate of the finalists. Judges for 2024 will feature the Founder of School of Rock, PG Academy, record producer and screenwriter Paul Green. Joining him is his wife Kim France, editor, music writer, and author. Back for a third year is renowned international author James Frey.
Organizer Rachel Lampen says: “This event has grown from year to year in terms of popularity and talent. I have bands contacting me a year in advance to compete, and the final is always sold out. It’s the best tonic for January and when the final two bands play the same song – the crowd goes wild.”
The ticketed finals on Saturday, February 3, 2024, will feature the four remaining bands. Tickets for the 2024 final are $22 per person. Proceeds from every ticket will go to Meals on Wheels, New Canaan.
