SUMMARY:“Trials of the Salem Witches” to be Presented by Rachel Christ\, Via Live Webinar from New Canaan Library
DESCRIPTION:As a tie-in to this year’s Lit Lunch @ Night\, featuring Alice Hoffman speaking on her novel Magic Lessons: A Prequel to Practical Magic\, New Canaan Library welcomes Rachel Christ\, Salem Witch Museum Director of Education\, who will deliver a live webinar on the topic of the Salem witch trials. Join the webinar on Tuesday\, November 10 at 7 PM EST. Zoom sign-in information will be provided upon registration; please register at newcanaanibrary.org. \nThe Salem witch trials of the late 1600s marked an infamous period in American history. Centering on the year 1692\, Ms. Christ will explore the historic events that were set off by a mysterious and alarming illness that afflicted the niece and daughter of Reverend Samuel Parris. Soon after\, the inhabitants of Salem Village were terrified with the prospect of witches loose in Essex County. Over the span of just one year\, the colonists experienced the most severe and devastating witch-hunt to ever take place in North America.\nRACHEL CHRIST is the Director of Education at the Salem Witch Museum. She holds a BA in Global History from Clark University and is currently working on her MA in History and Museum Studies at Tufts University. She has been Director of Education at the Salem Witch Museum since 2017\, and within this role she works with students and teachers\, curates the museum’s exhibits\, directs staff training\, and coordinates the museum’s educational programming.
