SUMMARY:Opening Reception – Exhibit: “About Women”
DESCRIPTION:The Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum in collaboration with Silvermine Arts Center will celebrate women’s artistic contributions by opening a new exhibition titled\, About Women\, on April 2\, 2020\, and runs through June 21\, 2020. Curated by Silvermine Gallery Director Roger Mudre\, the exhibition will feature selected works by female members of the Silvermine Guild of Artists—where renowned artists\, Elaine de Kooning\, Alice Neel\, Louise Nevelson\, Faith Ringgold and others socialized\, exchanged ideas\, and critiqued each other’s works for nearly a century— and provide an overview that will celebrate their diverse directions in subject matter and media and their contributions to contemporary art. The Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum will host an opening reception for the new exhibition on April 2nd; please RSVP by March 27th.

SUMMARY:Smithsonian Magazine’s Museum Day
DESCRIPTION:The Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum will open its doors free of charge to all Museum Day ticket holders as part of Smithsonian magazine’s 16th annual Museum Day\, a national celebration of boundless curiosity in which participating museums emulate the free admission policy at the Smithsonian Institution’s Washington D.C.-based museums. In celebration of this year’s theme on Earth Optimism\, the Museum’s Conservatory will be on view and docents will share with Museum Day visitors newly uncovered information highlighting the history of this room and the Mansion’s surrounding gardens during the mid-to-late 19th century.
