Learn more about our Membership Program HERE. \nArtists\, printmakers\, and laborers use the same hazardous chemicals as laboratory chemists\, but often don’t receive the same training on proper use. This special series of lectures will seek to cover that information gap. Whether you work with art materials at home or in a community studio\, this workshop will provide all the resources you need to establish a safe art practice. \nWe will cover the properties of common substances: metals\, solvents\, plastics\, and pigments and dyes. We will analyze current legislation on chemical manufacturers\, OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Association) and EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) guidelines\, and determine our obligations as consumers. Learn how to read Safety Data Sheets\, how to identify hazards\, and methods to protect yourself from them. Learn how to identify the right personal protective equipment for the chemicals you use. Discover tips and tricks on fitting safety and compliance smoothly into your studio pedagogy. \nThis class will be helpful for all\, and especially to those who are required to enforce OSHA standards as part of their job\, such as employers and studio technicians. \nLIZ BANNISH oversees the OSHA compliance program at the Center for Contemporary Printmaking. She was trained by world renowned chemical hygienist and art activist Monona Rossol and maintained OSHA compliance at Smith College in Northampton\, MA for five years in conjunction with Smith’s Laboratory Safety and Compliance Director. Liz is an artist and printmaker who has been training professionally in the arts since 2009. Her work uses themes of feminine power\, anti-capitalism\, and anxiety\, usually wrapped in marine imagery. Liz’s personal prints have been shown on a national scale and in mediums from fine art prints\, to photographs\, to alternative processes. She was the Printmaking and Photo Technician for Smith College in Northampton\, MA for five years. Previously\, she has trained as Apprentice Printer at Wingate Studio in NH and conducted workshops for the Southern Graphics Council. DESCRIPTION:INSTRUCTOR: MEAGHAN MORROW\nSUNDAY\, JULY 18\, 2021\, 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM\n$150 MEMBERS\, $175 NON-MEMBERS\nMAXIMUM 4 PARTICIPANTS \nThis one day hands on workshop invites artists to explore observational printmaking by working from a model. Observational monotype provides an opportunity for printmakers to let go of the stringent laws of printmaking and for painters to explore the world of possibilities that printmaking offers. This workshop is welcome to experienced printmakers wanting to work from a model and for beginner printmakers wanting guidence into exploring monotype. Oil and water based printing are welcome. \nImage: Meaghan Morrow\, She’s Seen 1\, Monotype \nMEAGHAN MORROW received her Associates Degree in Graphic Design and illustration at Pratt Institute Manhattan\, then moved onto complete her BFA in Illustration at Pratt Institute Brooklyn. Through pursuing illustration\, Meaghan explored print techniques as a medium for illustration and quickly grew a love for collaborative printmaking. After returning to her home town of Stamford\, Meaghan began working for the Center for Contemporary Printmaking. For the past five years she has been working as the Workshop Coordinator\, Assistant Printer\, and Media Coordinator; working collaboratively with instructors and artist members to create one of a kind fine art prints.

DESCRIPTION:INSTRUCTOR: CHRISTOPHER SHORE\nJULY 28\, 2021\, 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM EST\n$35 MEMBERS AND NON-MEMBERS \nWatercolor monotype is a simple and straightforward way to create a painterly print with just a few materials but with unlimited possibilities. In this demonstration based workshop\, learn the fundamentals of plate preparation\, image planning and execution. Great for beginners and artists looking to explore new non-toxic methods\, it can be applied to artists working in various practices. During the workshop\, Christopher will push the medium to greater heights by introducing collage techniques\, multiple plate registration and more. This workshop is open to both beginner and experienced printmakers. \nImage Details: Christopher Shore\, Untitled (detail)\, Watercolor monotype \nCHRISTOPHER SHORE is an artist printmaker who lives and works in the Greater New York area. His work explores many types of traditional and non-traditional printmaking techniques and has been exhibited in numerous group shows throughout Tri-State Area and in venues around the world. Recently Christopher’s work has been included in the 9th Duoro Biennal Print Exhibition 2018 in Douro\, Portugal\, and in a solo exhibition in Shanghai\, China in 2016. His work has been in exhibitions at the Katonah Museum of Art (NY)\, the University of Richmond Museum (VA)\, the Southampton Arts Center (NY)\, Arkansas State University (AR)\, and The Painting Center\, NYC. In 2002\, he was selected to present his work to the New York Print Club at The National Arts Club in NY as part of their Annual Showcase. \nChristopher is a graduate of Colby College and the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn\, NY where in 2001\, he was awarded a Masters in Fine Arts Degree with a concentration in printmaking. As well as being an instructor\, Chris is a collaborative printer working with internationally renowned artists as well as those who are still emerging. Many of these collaborations have been showcased in prestigious galleries\, exhibitions and museums\, often winning awards and recognition. Christopher is currently the Staff Master Printer at the Center for Contemporary Printmaking in Norwalk\, CT.
