SUMMARY:Glass House Presents: Sinfonietta Cracovia in partnership with St. Mark’s Church

DESCRIPTION:Sinfonietta Cracovia\, one of Europe’s premiere chamber orchestras\, will present their flagship project combining the film and concert music of two great composers—Philip Glass and Wojciech Kilar—as part of their international tour. \nWojciech Kilar composed film music and is known for many masterpieces of Polish cinema. He is perhaps best known abroad as the composer of Jane Campion’s The Portrait of a Lady and Francis Ford Coppola’s Dracula.  Known for his avant-garde work in the 1960s and 70s\, Philip Glass was nominated for three Academy Awards for Notes on a Scandal\, The Hours\, and Kundun. \nThe concert also includes a performance by the young Polish pianist and composer Aleksander Dębicz and the orchestra’s principal conductor Katarzyna Tomala-Jedynak. \nGlass House Presents is an ongoing series of talks\, performances\, and other live events that extend the site’s historic role as a gathering place for artists\, architects\, and other creative minds. This concert is co-financed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland\, and presented in partnership with the Polish Cultural institute New York and Supertrain Records. The tour is co-organized by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute within the “Programme of events accompanying the celebration of Wojciech Kilar’s 90th birthday (2022) and the 10th anniversary of his death (2023)”.

SUMMARY:12 ANGRY MEN\, by Reginald Rose
DESCRIPTION:The Town Players of New Canaan is performing the classic 12 Angry Men at the Powerhouse Theatre in Waveny Park for two weekends with a powerful cast of top local actors and professional actors from NYC and LA. We are the ONLY theater in the USA performing this Professional Version this year! Others perform the adapted versions by Sherman L. Sergel.\n12 Angry Men is a 1955 stage play by Reginald Rose which he adapted from his 1954 teleplay of the same title for the CBS Studio One. It took nearly 50 years for the play to make its Broadway debut in October\, 2004 where it ran for a stellar 328 performances at the American Airlines Theatre. This version then toured the US in 2006/2007. And now the Town Players are bringing this Broadway version to New Canaan! \nThe play explores the deliberations of a jury of a homicide trial\, in which a dozen “men with ties and a coat” decide the fate of a teenager accused of murdering his abusive father. At the beginning\, they are nearly unanimous in concluding the youth is guilty. One man dissents\, declaring him “not guilty”\, and he sows a seed of reasonable doubt. Eventually he convinces the other jurors to support a unanimous “not guilty” verdict.
