SUMMARY:Healthcare Pathfinder Presents: Medicare Enrollment Done Right (Part 1 of 3)
DESCRIPTION:Healthcare Pathfinder is conducting a three-part series to assist people who are turning 65. The class will guide them through the complex and confusing Medicare enrollment process. The professional advisors of Healthcare Pathfinder\, Anne McGuire and Victoria Bieler\, have developed a series to help people understand Medicare and avoid costly mistakes. \n“A lot of people may have heard of Medicare Part A\, B\, C\, D and Supplement Plans J\,F\, G and N\, but have no idea what they mean. Add in Medicare Advantage plans and the varying costs and it is even more confusing\, remarks Anne McGuire\, President and founder of Healthcare Pathfinder. We are advocates and advisors\, not sales people! Our goal is to demystify Medicare\, facilitate the enrollment process\, and create peace of mind.” \nThe three-part series meets once a month for 2 hours. HealthCare Pathfinder staff will work with attendees to research and compare all coverage options\, select the best personalized plan(s)\, and complete enrollment. “We are looking forward to celebrating Medicare enrollments and 65th birthdays at the end of each series”\, remarks Victoria Bieler. \nClasses are being held at HAYVN (320 Post Road Darien CT). \nClass size is limited\, so early registration is advised. Participants must register at least 4 months prior to their 65th birthday to allow ample time for the Social Security Administration to process the necessary documentation.\nFor more information and to enroll\, visit: www.healthcarepathfinder.commedicare-enrollment \nFor one-on-one enrollment services\, please contact Healthcare Pathfinder directly at 203-557-7288. \nPlease note: Healthcare Pathfinder does not sell insurance or endorse any insurance companies or products.

SUMMARY:Something Old and Borrowed?: 18th-Century Silk Wedding Dresses in New England.
DESCRIPTION:The talk will highlight a group of 18th-century gowns made from drawloom-woven silks that have histories of ownership to New England women. What becomes clear is that these garments were not new at the times of the ascribed weddings\, and many exhibit signs of alterations years after the wedding dates. The reasons behind these unexpected discoveries are contextualized within 18th-century fashion history and more modern ideas about family heirlooms.\nDavid E. (Ned) Lazaro is the Associate Curator of Costume and Textiles at Wadsworth Atheneum. He holds a master’s degree in fashion and textile history from the University of Massachusetts\, Amherst\, where he focused on 18th- and early 19th- century clothing construction. He has lectured and published on various aspects of western fashion and appearance through the lens of New England inhabitants\, including 17th- and 18th- century Indian cotton\, 18th-century drawloom-woven silks\, 19th-century hoop skirts\, and 20th-century dressmaking. Ned has curated exhibitions at the Flynt Center of Early New England Life focusing on the intersection of fashion and the military\, the reuse of clothing and textiles\, and nature motifs in the decorative arts.\nThe lecture is the closing program for the Museum’s exhibition I Do: The History of Wedding Fashion and Tradition. The event is free for members and $5 for all others. Refreshments will be served.
