New Canaan Library is pleased to welcome photojournalist and fine art photographer Claire Thomas\, who will present the talk “Photojournalism: Still Images of a World in Motion.” The live webinar will take place on Thursday\, May 19 at 7 PM EST. Please register at newcanaanlibrary.org for Zoom sign in. \nAs a photojournalist and fine art photographer\, Claire Thomas makes the world her home as she travels the globe documenting international cultures as well as conflicts. With a perspective informed by her university focus in politics and a keen eye for the art of photography\, she trains her camera on issues surrounding political and military conflicts\, human rights\, and humanitarian and environmental crises. From the Middle East and Africa to Europe\, Claire has covered a range of stories in various countries\, contributing images and photo essays to leading newspapers\, magazines and news agencies worldwide. \nClaire Thomas is a photojournalist and fine art photographer from Wales\, currently based between the UK and New York City. A graduate in Politics from the University of the West of England\, her photojournalism work is focused on issues surrounding political and military conflicts\, human rights\, and humanitarian and environmental crises. From within the camps that emerged from the refugee crisis in Europe to the frontlines in the battle against ISIS in Iraq\, Claire has covered a wide range of stories in various countries\, contributing images and photo essays to leading media worldwide.

DESCRIPTION:JAM + BREAD presents LIVE MUSIC AT THE POWERHOUSE \nThere is nothing quite like an intimate “live music” experience\, and inside the Powerhouse Theatre\, our guests will be treated to live musical events featuring super-talented national and local artists performing their craft in a wonderful\, cozy\, 115-seat theater where there is not a bad seat in the house. This series will be an event for friends and family to gather and share a warm positive vibe\, and enjoy top shelf music. The programming for the series will primarily feature acoustic singer-songwriters and artists that can perform “stripped down” music. On special occasions we will aim to showcase world-renowned artists\, but will always be booking breakout stars\, up-and-comers\, as well as having young local artists performing on our stage – top tier talent with small-town friendliness. We will produce up to eight shows annually and are prepared to target as many as twelve shows\, one per month. The series will be professionally filmed and recorded by some of the entertainment industry’s top production personnel. \nFor our FIRST SHOW – we are excited to present REID PARSONS with opening act\, recent NCHS Grad\, JULIA JEWEL. Both artists have strong connections to New Canaan.
