This is an ongoing series of portraits of mothers based on photos taken by their children\, which Chiango then painted into portraits using a specific palette of colors. “The project was inspired by the changes in my role as a mother\, caregiver\, and provider that happened over the course of the pandemic\,” said Chiango. \nWilliam Evertson\, (Lyme\, CT) who created Rota Fortunae in February and March of 2020\, described his work\, which was inspired by the pandemic\, as “Partially a self-portrait of someone at risk due to preconditions and a reminder of the indiscriminate nature of a virus.” \nArtist Kathie Milligan (Stamford\, CT)\, who is exhibiting Forced Separation\, received her MFA in painting in 2007 from the New York Studio School in Manhattan and earned her undergraduate degree in studio art from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs\, New York. Milligan is a multimedia artist who has shown her work internationally. \nAlso featured is Barry Guthertz (Norwalk\, CT)\, who has been exhibiting his Fine Art photography throughout the Northeast for over 40 years. His award-winning work has been shown at The Brooklyn Museum and French Embassy\, as well as in the General Electric and Union Carbide Corporate Galleries. He has had solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group shows throughout the Greater New York and Connecticut region\, as well in Portland\, Oregon on the West Coast. \nArtist Carol Bouyoucos (Mt. Kisco\, NY) said\, “Contemplating nature is an antidote to an anxious and complex world\, and our various experiences in it can reveal moments of shared humanity and respect.” Ms. Bouyoucos\, who will be showing her photographs at LMMM\, received her BFA from the University of Michigan’s Stamps School of Art & Design\, Ann Arbor. SUMMARY:LMMM to Feature Virtual Talk on Collecting Rare Medical Artifacts by Distinguished Collector\, Professor and Medical Historian Dr. Donald Blaufox
DESCRIPTION:On Sunday\, April 11\, 2021\, at 2 p.m. the Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum will present a virtual talk titled\, Collecting Medical History by Dr. Donald Blaufox\, Professor and University Chairman Emeritus of the Department of Nuclear Medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. \nDr. Blaufox will share his obsession with collecting antique medical objects\, a passion that started with old patent medicine bottles and evolved into the acquisition of over a thousand artifacts\, some of which will be on display at the Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum. \nDr. Blaufox said: “Although reading about the history of medicine can be informative\, the understanding of earlier times is greatly enhanced by being able to hold an object from that time in your hands.” \nThis lecture will take the audience through Dr. Blaufox’s entry into the field of medical antique collecting and demonstrate some of the more interesting artifacts he acquired over the years. It will also describe his metamorphosis into a Medical Historian. \n“Antique medical instruments and objects provide a unique window into the past. The acquisition\, identification and study of an object offer an insight into the practice of medicine and the general culture at the time it was introduced\,” said Dr. Blaufox. \nDr. M. Donald Blaufox is the author of two hundred and ninety-two peer reviewed articles and book chapters on Nuclear Medicine\, Hypertension and Medical History. In addition\, he is Co-Editor Emeritus of the Seminars in Nuclear Medicine\, past Chairman of the American Board of Nuclear Medicine and serves on several Editorial Boards in related fields. He has authored and edited twenty-five books and has ninety-six chapters in books\, and reviews in textbooks and journals. His latest books are Blood Pressure Measurement: An Illustrated History\, and An Ear to the Chest: An Illustrated History of the Evolution of the Stethoscope. His interest in medical history grew out of a major collection of antique medical instruments\, books and related items. You may learn more about the Blaufox Collection by visiting the website of the Museum of Historical Medical Artifacts: http://www.mohma.org/. \nThe Museum’s 2021 cultural and educational programs are made possible in part by generous funding from LMMM’s Founding Patrons: The Estate of Mrs. Cynthia Clark Brown; LMMM’s Leadership Patrons: The Sealark Foundation; LMMM’s 2021 Season Distinguished Benefactors: The City of Norwalk and The Maurice Goodman Foundation; LMMM’s 2021 Distinguished Benefactors for Education: The Daphne Seybolt Culpeper Memorial Foundation\, Inc. \nLecture Admission: The lecture admission is free\, but we welcome donations to support the Museum’s cultural and educational programming during the Covid-19 crisis.
