SUMMARY:Med Ed at New Canaan Library: “Breast Health: Everything You Wanted to Know but Were Afraid to Ask” Presented by Dr. Helen Pass\, Chief of Breast Surgery at Stamford Hospital.
DESCRIPTION:Stamford Hospital and New Canaan Library’s collaborative Med Ed series returns via Zoom\, offering lectures on specific health issues by top physicians from Stamford Hospital. The Library is pleased to offer a talk on breast health\, presented by Helen A. Pass\, M.D. Co-Director\, Women’s Breast Center and Chief of Breast Surgery at Stamford Hospital. The live webinar takes place on Thursday\, February 10 at 7 PM EST; Zoom information provided upon registration at newcanaanlibrary.org. \nDr. Pass takes the important topic of breast health and with a visual presentation gives the audience vital information in an enjoyable manner. In her presentation\, Dr. Pass offers the truth on myths that have been floated over the years; does deodorant cause breast cancer? Is sleeping in a bra detrimental to breast health? Most importantly\, she will provide a clear synopsis of lifestyle recommendations and facts to promote general breast health awareness. Among the topics she will cover are the roles genetics\, lifestyle choices\, exercise and the environment play in breast health\, and the facts surrounding mammograms. \nDr. Helen A. Pass is Co-Director\, Women’s Breast Center and Chief of Breast Surgery at Stamford Hospital. She formerly served as the Director of Breast Services\, NYP/Lawrence Hospital\, Bronxville\, New York (2005-2012)\, as well as Chief of the Comprehensive Breast Care Centers at William Beaumont Hospital\, Royal Oak\, Michigan and the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center. \nA graduate of the University of Michigan School of Medicine in Ann Arbor\, Dr. Pass performed her general surgery residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center and at Georgetown University Hospital. She completed a surgical oncology fellowship\, as well as served as Senior Investigator at the Surgery Branch of the National Cancer Institute\, National Institutes of Health. \nDr. Pass is a Past President and former Chairman of the Board of the American Society of Breast Surgeons. She has been instrumental in the creation of the multidisciplinary Breast Fellowship and served on the Training Committee of the Society of Surgical Oncology and the Breast Specialty Training Committee of the American Society of Breast Diseases.
