Renowned Ornithologist David Sibley Presents: What it’s Like to be a Bird
September 7 @ 3:15 pm - 5:00 pm
New Canaan Land Trust, Bristow Park Sanctuary and New Canaan Library are proud to host a talk by the country’s leading bird expert, David Sibley. Mr. Sibley will speak at 3:15 pm; the event will close with a reception and a book sale with Elm Street Books from 4:15 – 5 pm.
Birds possess some amazing superpowers – from ultraviolet vision and highly efficient breathing to deep diving, precise navigation, and perfect balance. In fact, nearly every aspect of their anatomy, physiology, and behavior has been shaped in some way by the demands of their ultimate superpower: flight.
Using a selection of illustrations and information from his new book What It’s Like to be a Bird, David will speak about some of the incredible things birds can do, and the adaptations that have made those possible. David will also discuss the effects of the biodiversity crisis on birds, and how collisions with buildings and cats impact the bird population.
David Allen Sibley is the author and illustrator of the successful series of nature guides that bear his name, including The New York Times bestseller The Sibley Guide to Birds.
