Making it Modern: Elements in Architecture and Design
October 15, 2023 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm
New Canaan, whose architecture spans from the colonial to the contemporary, is the perfect setting for a discussion on the intersection of traditional and modern styles. Interior designer Christina Roughan and architect Thomas Kligerman share how their work links interior design and architecture across this stylistic gap and how a clever handling of the two extremes can yield a rich and rewarding interpretation of new residential design.”
Christina Roughan founded her acclaimed international design firm Roughan Interiors in 2009 with offices in Fairfield County CT and NYC. Designing since 1994, Roughan began her design career with iconic lifestyle brands Polo Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger, designing retail stores and showrooms worldwide. Known for her talent of combining modern design and traditional interiors, Christina’s knowledge of art, mid-century modern, and fashion serve her clients well in designing their residences, yachts, or equestrian properties around the globe. Her work has been published in numerous titles including Elle Decor, House Beautiful, House & Garden, The Wall Street Journal, CTC&G, and Bedford New Canaan Magazine. Christina lives with her family in Weston CT in a 200 year old house with modern elements of design.
Born of a life of travel and living throughout the United States and overseas, Thomas Kligerman has a deep interest in the rich history of domestic architecture, interiors and landscapes as well as in the design process itself. Tom studies the design from hand-sketched concept through computer modeling, 3D printing and full size mockups to hone the firm’s final designs. He serves on the boards of several charitable and educational institutions centering on architecture and the environment.
Mr. Kligerman’s latest book will be available for sale. The event is free.
