ArtScapades at New Canaan Library Continues “The Road to Modern Art” Series with the Talk “Fauvism and Beyond”
July 13, 2020 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
FreeArtScapades at New Canaan Library continues the 2019-2020 series, “The Road to Modern Art”, on Monday, July 13 at 7:00 p.m. via live webinar. Please register at newcanaanlibrary.org for Zoom sign in information.
The series continues with “Fauvism and Beyond: From Color to Form,” which will explore the beginnings of Modern Art, starting with two artists – Henri Matisse and André Derain – who explored a new freedom and level of spontaneity in painting. This new style was characterized by vibrant color and expressive brushstrokes, defining the influential avant-garde art movement. The presentation will examine approximately a dozen works per artist, including iconic works and those that illustrate significant trends and events in their lives and careers.
Robin Hoffman and Jodi Stiffelman of ArtScapades began teaching art appreciation in 1998. They have presented at libraries and museums in Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts, and Florida, and are returning for their twelfth season at New Canaan Library.
