“Anti-Asian Hate: History, Context, Recognition and Allyship” is Presented by Dr. Lok Siu Via New Canaan Library Videoconference

New Canaan Library presents a live webinar on Thursday, May 27 at 7 PM EST, when Dr. Lok Siu, University of California, Berkley will address the many aspects of the topic. How do we make sense of the recent rise in anti-Asian sentiments and hate crimes? And why is there so much resistance to seeing this as a form of racism? In her lecture, Dr. Lok Siu of University of California, Berkeley will discuss and explore learn the history of anti-Asian violence, the current context of what might be driving anti-Asian hate, and most importantly, how to address anti-Asian racism and create allyship.
Dr. Lok Siu is Faculty of the Department of Ethnic Studies and Asian American and Asian Diaspora Studies Program at UC Berkley, as well as Affiliated Faculty of Anthropology, Center for Latin American Studies, Center for Chinese Studies, Food Institute. Her areas of specialization include diaspora; transnationalism; global migration; cultural citizenship; un/belonging; race, ethnicity, and gender; Asians in the Americas; Chinese diaspora;
Asian/Latinx Intersections, ethnography; and anthropology of food. She is the author of six books and is currently working on two forthcoming books: Worlding Asian Latinx: Intimate Publics of Cultural Mixing, and Food, Ethnicity, and Globalization.
