Regardless of the time of year, there’s always plenty of things to do in our picturesque town.

We have beautiful parks where you can take a leisurely stroll, breathe in free air, and see plenty of wildlife or art galleries and museums where you can learn about New Canaan’s creative icons and its lengthy history. There are also plenty of community events where you can take your family or gather with friends.

Whether you’re a longtime resident or someone who’s relatively new to town, here’s a small sampling of some of the activities and events that make the summer months so enjoyable.

Exploring Waveny Park and more

Waveny is a sprawling recreational haven with lush green spaces, walking trails, and historic landmarks. During the summer, the park comes alive with outdoor concerts, picnics, and family gatherings. The beautifully landscaped gardens provide a serene backdrop for relaxation, while the playgrounds and sports facilities cater to active individuals and families.

Waveny is certainly the largest, but it’s not the only park where families and children can have fun. Be sure to check out Irwin Park, Kiwanis Park, Ed Dixon Memorial Park, Mill Pond Park, Mead Memorial Park, or the Bristow Bird Sanctuary for other recreational activities.

Get it fresh at the Farmers' Market

Every Saturday morning, the Farmers' Market is a must-visit for people who want locally grown produce, artisanal crafts, and delectable treats. The market is a hub of community engagement. Visitors can indulge in fresh fruits, vegetables, baked goods, and handcrafted items while enjoying the vibrant atmosphere and connecting with local vendors.

Take a retreat at Grace Farms

This unique sanctuary seamlessly blends nature, architecture, and community engagement. Its serene landscapes, walking trails, and architectural marvels create an ideal setting for meditation, art appreciation, and intellectual discussions.

Programs during the summer often include yoga sessions, art workshops, and wide-ranging discussions on pressing global issues.

An appreciation of art and culture

The Town’s art scene thrives during the summer, with local galleries showcasing diverse works by talented local artists and other more prominent creators.

For designers and architects, The Glass House is an iconic modernist gem that offers guided tours that explore the intersection of art, architecture, and nature. The Town is also home to other historic structures, including the Noyes House, Frank Lloyd Wright’s Tirranna, and Gores Pavilion.

For those who prefer history, the New Canaan Historical Society hosts exhibitions and events that delve into the town's colonial history.

Outdoor concerts at Waveny

Each summer, the Town’s Parks and Recreation Department hosts a free concert series at Waveny. In 2023, the concerts are on Wednesdays beginning at 7:30 p.m. Bring a chair and a blanket and enjoy a variety of performers.

Opened in early 2023, the new library features an array of captivating attractions that cater to diverse interests and ages. Areas that are sure to draw visitors are the state-of-the-art technology center, the innovative children's discovery zone, the spectacular auditorium, the rooftop terrace, and the still-to-come library green.
