Enjoy a Night Hike July 8 at the New Canaan Nature Center

data blogJune 22, 2023

What wanders around outside while you’re sleeping at night? The New Canaan Nature Center can help you find out!

The first of the Nature Center’s popular summer Night Hikes is scheduled for Saturday, July 8. The Night of 1,000 Fireflies will consist of two hikes, one set for 7:15 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. and the second from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Naturalists from the Nature Center will take hikers on a search for woodland creatures such as worms, amphibians, and many of the other creatures that live on the grounds but may only be seen when it’s dark. The highlight of the night will be when the soft light of thousands of fireflies light up the meadow.

People who are interested in participating are encouraged to pre-register. Everyone who plans to attend (adults and children) must buy a ticket. Tickets are $15 per person and can be purchased here.

Be sure to dress for night weather and you must be comfortable walking around the grounds in the dark so we don’t disturb our animal friends. Members of our staff will have emergency flashlights.
