Have you reserved your chair at the NEW New Canaan Library?

The Chair Project is a fundraising campaign for town residents who would like to dedicate a chair in the new library’s Jim and Dede Bartlett Auditorium.

The Bartlett Auditorium will feature 325 Series 7 chairs designed by mid-century modern designer Arne Jacobsen. For a $1,000 donation, residents can dedicate a chair in a family’s name, honor a deceased loved one, or recognize a charity or local organization that means something special.

As of Thursday, April 7, Ellen Sullivan Crovatto, CEO of the Campaign for the NEW New Canaan Library, said 195 chairs have been sold and the campaign has been gaining steam in the last two weeks. The campaign will end on May 20, or when the remaining 130 chairs have been sold.

Each donor will be able to have an inscription laser-cut into the back of their chair. Each chair is being customized by Design Within Reach/MillerKnoll exclusively for the library project.

Marketing for The Chair Project features a collage of New Canaan-based artists, authors, architects, musicians, and performers that have been photographed by Andrea Carson in one of the Series 7 chairs. Crovatto said the collage highlights the potential that exists in the town for programming in the new auditorium.
