Part of the charm of shopping in New Canaan is the walkable downtown area that is filled with shops and boutiques.

One of the can’t miss boutiques would be Sara Campbell, a women’s clothing store that features timeless classics and special occasion fashions that are on trend. Located on Elm Street near the intersection with Park Street, it’s been a fixture in New Canaan for the last eight years.

Managed by Louise Cockrell, the Sara Campbell franchise in New Canaan is one of 24 stores in the chain that opened its first boutique in Boston in 1985. Mary Ann Tralka serves as the store’s regional manager.

Philanthropy and a philosophy of giving back to the communities where they conduct business is synonymous with the Sara Campbell brand. That’s certainly true in New Canaan where the store was recently involved in a project to supply new undergarments to men, women and children in need.

The Undies Project was started to provide people in need with undergarments that would improve their hygiene, basic comfort, and dignity and self-esteem. Donations of new undergarments were accepted through the second weekend in March.

Sara Campbell was scheduled to participate in other community events before the COVID-19 health crisis forced stores to close in March. Sara Campbell and the nonprofit Canine Companions were to co-host a fund-raising event in early April, and the store was to participate in an event with the New Canaan Garden Club in May.

Sara Campbell stores are slowly re-opening. Check the store’s website at https://www.saracampbell.com/ for the latest information about store hours and health-related restrictions. Sara Campbell’s pop-up online store is also open, and can be visited via https://shop.saracampbell.com/.
