Mark your calendars for two fun events coming soon to the New Canaan Nature Center.
On Saturday, January 27, come out and enjoy the Owl Moon Night Hike beginning at 6:30 p.m. The moon will be full which will make it a perfect time to see some of our favorite nocturnal neighbors at the Nature Center.
Then on Saturday, February 3, the Nature Center will begin its annual Adopt-A-Tree/Maple Syrup event. Four sessions are available for families or groups that want to participate.
Owl Moon Night Hike
Beginning at 6:30 p.m., hikers will see owls in their natural habitats and then be treated to a live owl presentation inside the Center where participants will learn about how owls communicate and meet a couple of owls up close.
Remember to dress for cold weather and please don’t bring flashlights. Nature Center staff will guide you through the grounds and have emergency lights available if needed.
Space is limited so click here to register today. Tickets are $15 per person.
Adopt-A-Tree/Maple Syrup Program
Select a maple tree, tap it, collect the syrup, and then take part in a boil down to create your own maple syrup.
Select from one of the four sessions available (9:30 a.m., 11 a.m., 12:30 p.m., or 2 p.m.) where you will select a tree and tap it for the season.
Sap will be collected one to three times a week depending on the tree’s flow for a period of four to six weeks.
When all the sap is collected, you’ll boil it down and take home syrup to enjoy with waffles, pancakes, or anything else you can pour syrup on.
