On September 12, the Carriage Barn Arts Center in Waveny Park is re-opening and kicking-off the 2020/21 season with their Annual Member Show. The exhibit features 150 pieces that celebrate the range, interests, and talents of Carriage Barn member artists working across all subjects, styles, and media in art.   While the theme is open, this year artist were invited to submit work that reflects on, relates to or was created in the year 2020.  All work can also be viewed through an online virtual gallery launching on September 11.

In lieu of an opening reception, the Carriage Barn will host an open house weekend on September 12 & 13 from 1-4pm.  Refreshments will be available outside in the courtyard and visitors can sign up online to view the exhibit during half-hour time slots.  Social distancing will be practiced inside the gallery and masks should be worn. Other exhibit events include a virtual artist talk via zoom on September 16 at 6pm, an in-gallery artist talk on September 20 at 3pm and the Carriage Barn Arts Center Annual meeting and panel presentation on October 8 at 6:30pm.  All details are online at Carriagebarn.org.

One piece in the show will be awarded the Betty Barker Award and a $250 prize.  The award was established in 2017 in honor of Betty Barker (1920-1997), a prolific and accomplished artist who was the driving force in establishing the Carriage Barn Arts Center. The exhibit runs through October 11 and gallery hours are Wednesday-Saturday from 10am-3pm and Sundays from 1-5pm. Admission is free and open to the public.

Membership is open to anyone with an interest in the artistic activities of the New Canaan Society for the Arts.  Those interested in exhibiting or participating in other activities can join or renew their membership online at www.carriagebarn.org.
