The sound of New Canaan families caroling at God’s Acre on Christmas Eve will return this year.
The century-old community tradition, which was scuttled by COVID-19 health concerns in 2020, will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Christmas Eve around the large, decorated tree on the grounds of The Congregational Church of New Canaan.
Families, friends, and new residents of the town are invited to join the New Canaan Town Band for eight classic Christmas carols. Song sheets will be provided at the event or look for them on the back page of the New Canaan Advertiser newspaper in the coming week.
The caroling is one of four events scheduled at The Congregational Church on Christmas Eve. A family nativity pageant featuring a procession of light and a celebration of Christ’s birth will start at 4 p.m. Individual worship services will precede and follow the caroling at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. The evening will be capped by a candlelight service at 11 p.m.
