If you’ve lived in New Canaan for any length of time, you know where you can find creative and trending jewelry that won’t cost a fortune.
Pennyweights has been a mainstay in downtown since 1980. Located at 108 Elm St in New Canaan, owners Geoff & Kelly have been providing beautiful pieces of jewelry at affordable prices since they took over the business in the year 2000. The business was originally started in 1980 and celebrates 40 years this year!
Geoff, a New Canaan native, has strong roots to the town. Kelly is from Kentucky but that never stopped her from showing her New Canaan pride and appreciation over the years. Pennyweights strongly believes in giving back to the community through donations to local schools and charities. Every year they participate in a scholarship program at the high school and provide gifts at Christmas for the residents of the Waveny Care Center.
Owing to COVID-19, Pennyweights was closed but opened an Etsy store so customers would have access to the everyday items they come in for. “We have been adding items daily and now we have necklaces and rings as well as a vast selection of hoop & stud earrings,” says Kelly. The link to Pennyweight’s Etsy store can be found on their Instagram page @pennyweightsjewelry or on their Facebook home page. They are also offered curbside pickup for convenience.
What does Kelly recommend this season? “Hoop earrings are really having a moment now and we have so many different shapes - 7 sizes in our Etsy store, really something for everyone! We have so many new items arriving in May and June! Stone rings, earrings & necklaces we had designed and made will be coming in, so beautiful, we get so excited for these pieces!” Kelly and Geoff say they appreciate customers shopping with them through Etsy and phone orders and hope everyone stays safe and healthy. They look forward to the day they are able to fully reopen their doors again to the New Canaan community and beyond.
